Summer Health and You

Summer Health Tips for Diabetes

Summer is right around the corner. Your health is important during this time. After a long winter and spring in some places, exercise just never happened. Keeping warm and hanging out on your favorite social media sites, playing video games, and watching TV added up to weight gain.

Basically you never ate healthy!

You know you are guilty! We all are! But, learning to change your diet and controlling it is key. With summer, you cannot just jump in the swimming pool and swim a mile. You are putting stress on your heart, lungs, and body. Gradually getting into fun will shed pounds faster than what you think. Go for casual daily walks while spring is in the air. This stretches your muscles.

Walking will gradually tighten all the ones in your legs. This will help your posture as your back is not slouched. Instead, your back is straighter, which strengthens your low back. This will sync with your legs and hips, meaning you are now exercising. Bone bearing exercise such as this is low impact for injury and helps with Osteoporosis. Start power walking within two weeks to change over to real exercise.

You are walking faster and concentrating on a goal. The goal should be a minimum of half a mile one way and half a mile back. Moving you to a mile a day and up to five miles a week. Take the weekend off. Or skip a day and walk again. When done walking, make sure to sit straight instead of lying down on the couch. Let your body gradually cool down slowly. Sip on water and not guzzle it down.

Do not drink a bunch of water before walking.

You do not want to cramp up or need to use the bathroom while out for the walk. Change your meal times and the portions. Drink two glasses of water for breakfast. Eat fresh fruit and vegetables throughout the day to snack along with yogurt. Have your dinner for your lunch as the bigger meal. The last meal of the day should be lighter.

A salad mixed with black olives, pepperoni, onions, cherry tomatoes, and a sprinkle of cheese could be a great alternative. Add a bowl of soup with it and frozen yogurt for dessert. The more you eat during the day, you do not gain weight. It is the how you do it. Eating tiny, mini meals knocks the hunger pains. So, you do not eat as much at a regular meal. Those mini meals can be a couple snacks turned into a quick meal. Up to six mini meals a day keeps the body fed with fuel to burn energy.

You have to have energy to exercise and it needs to be replaced. Remember your two glasses of water this morning? Now make sure you drink another six glasses before bedtime. Do not moan and groan! There are healthy flavors to add to the water. Try Crystal Light as an alternative. Water will also reduce hunger pangs!

All this is important to summer health. Your body will have lost weight by then because of eating healthier. You can hang out with friends and family. Not feeling so old, tired, and worn out. You can stay out all day and feel energized!
